Still the Fourth
I am such a dough brain. The kid and I had planned on going to our little grassy knoll to watch the downtown fireworks. One problem--the teenager (as usual). He had to work tonight, until 10, and I had to pick him up. The fireworks started at 9:30--you do the math.
So, I sent the kid along with his friends to watch them and I stayed home like a good mom -- sniffle sniffle. I finished off the remainder of the peaches in a cobbler (for us this time); and as soon as it was done I called the teenager to make sure he did need a ride home. Of course, he didn't. Duh. I should have known that was coming down the road. So, I jump in the car and drive up the mountain right down the street from our house thinking I'd be able to see fireworks from both Brentwood and Franklin. Wrong. I get all the way to the top and it's so high up and the trees are so tall, you can just barely make out the explosions in Bentwood. Ok, so I begin driving back down the mountain (along with a few other people who were thinking just like me) and I can see the Franklin fireworks beginning. I drive into my neighborhood and notice you can see them from there! I pull in my driveway and I can still see them. I proceeded to sit on my back deck (alone--sniffle sniffle) and watch the beautiful show. All that for nuthin'. I could have just grabbed a bowl, put some cobbler in there, added ice cream and took a seat right in my back yard enjoying my cobbler. But, nooooo, I had to drive up the mountain and back. No sense!
Now I'm off to get pizza for the gang. They're all due here (plus a few extra) in a couple of minutes. Gee, it was a lonely night all by myself. I'll never complain about them again--yea right, until they get here!! ha.

Great story!!
Hey, thanks for stopping by my post and leaving a couple messages. I took my photos in the Court Green in Gloucester. We've been here five years this summer. We came from Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee. What a coincidence, huh? We lived there about seven years. Glad to hear you're enjoying the state, I sure do miss it and would love to move back some day. I consider it home, for some reason.
Hi Rosa, For some reason, this all just felt so familiar. Best laid plans, kids, alternatives, Plan B's, going in circles, and finally settling in for the night thinking of the could ofs, would ofs, should ofs only to be off and running again.
We usually hit the outdoor concert at the university every year and enjoy the fireworks afterwards. But this year we stayed in and I didn't miss the musical tradition at all. In fact, I made more headway on the reduction of Mt. Photograph and I'm still working on the first box after two days.
Happy Fourth,
Annie
p.s. Nice fireworks pic.
Hi Rosa, you've got a very pretty site here! Thanks for leaving a comment at my blogspot site. You may have noticed there's been no new posts since May. Its frozen! So I set up a new blog at http://www.misscellania.com with new content every day. Come check it out!
Yes, its supposed to be funny.
Hi Rosa, thanks for popping into the funny bone, it is always nice to have fresh blood in there. Nice blog too. I hope you enjoyed your 4th of July celebrations.I grew up in a town in Scotland which had an American navy base so have grown up loving all things American and still need a regular fix of Dr Pepper lol. Hope to see you again soon.
I was a little sad at first thinking I could not see any fireworks and did not feel like fighting a crowd to see any...imagine my surprise when they were closer than I thought and I got to see them from my backyard...Gotta love us some fireworks!!!
:-D
Sometimes we don't realize what's right in front of our noses! lol Sounds like something I would have done, drive all over trying to find the right spot to see the fireworks then realize I could see them from my own yard!! I spent our Canada Day on July 1st alone and it poured all day so that sucked...the next night I went on the deck and lit my sparklers. What fun!! lol
