When I was little, I couldn't say my soft R's. I could say Rose just fine, but Mary came out as maiwy. My Southern cousins called me a Yankee but everyone else thought it was cute. I finally did overcome the Bronx accent after only one trip to the speech therapist when I hit kindergarten. I remember distinctly that one session. I also remember playing a game with someone and they cheated; I called them a "cheatoowr."
Tonight, I'm a cheatoowr. The kid and I had lunch at Bread & Co. today being the last day of school. He reminded me that we also had lunch there on the first day of school. Guess this may be our little tradition now (unknowingly). Wednesdays, their soup of the day is Vegi Corn Chowder, which is my favorite. So as I was paying, I saw it, grabbed it and bought a container for dinner. They threw in 8 sour dough rolls, all for $8.95. More than enough to feed us. We'll be having rolls for breakfast tomorrow morning!
I can't believe school is done for the year!! Yahoo. I still feel like it's me getting out for the summer. My schedule won't really change, but I still get the butterflies in my tummy just thinking about summer. We have a busy few weeks ahead of us!
Raphael and his brother, Regis, from Brittany, France are coming in for a week on the 8th of June. Regis stayed in Nashville many years ago and his "host" family is having a wedding. (We just happen to move here later.) Raphael and the rest of us will hang out as usual. We always have so much fun together. Raphi has been visiting us since 1995. He's just like a little brother to me and a big brother to the boys. We always play tricks on each other and just laugh the whole time he is here. The last time, he was interning and that put a damper on our shananigans; but we still snuck some in. Here on the left, the kid got tired of him and just taped him to the floor; and then, of course, there was retaliation. Raphi always cooks a good dinner for us (hey, he doesn't get off easy!! ha) and always makes crepes at least once!! YUM!! Can't wait Raphi!!! Can you say CORONA? (Raphi, I will start cleaning the rec room for you this weekend!! Reg gets the nice room, giggle.)
We all look forward to his visit and to finally meeting Regis. He is the only family member we have yet to meet! We met up with their parents in London many years ago.
On the 17th of June, we are heading back down to the Gulf of Mexico. We have some of our dearest friends from Virginia meeting us there. Linda--my buddy, her son Logan--the kid's buddy and daughter Lauren--the teenager's buddy, will meet us in Mobile and then we head off to the beach for a week of catch up and relaxation. The hub will only be with us for a couple of days, then he's off to Singapore. This will give Linda and I plenty of "girl" time. I can't wait! Woohoo! So you see, all fun and games ahead. I can't wait to see everyone.
Feeling better today. Yesterday, my feet were swollen (strange) and I had major carpal tunnel (from carrying bags perhaps?) and a sore throat--all due to jet lag. It's hell getting older! Today, I feel perfectly fine. Will hit the hay early though. I always look forward to going to sleep!
