My Wall of Three Rs
I found the old vintage R (left) on Ebay one night while looking around. I've always been fascinated with typefaces. I was told it was from the 1960s. Who knows. When I was in DC and we were looking around Georgetown Park, I had to hit Anthroplogie. I absolutely love their catalog and I was so excited the last time I was home to run into it. I didn't know they had a store until then. Anyway, as soon as I went in, my eye was caught by this green R (bottom right). What it is with green Rs? It's a fabric one and will look cute if I start to stick pins in it, perhaps with little pieces of fabric. We'll see. I love the way they decorate the store. Very eclectic--just my taste. I love this display, what a wonderful idea of a family tree--literally.
Today, since I had all my supplies organized, I thought I would do a quick project. I had this cardboard R from a month ago that I had not done anything with. I brought it out and just started working on it. The picture on the left looks like the teenager when he was about three--exactly! I found it in a card shop. I couldn't resist. I normally begin my work with one pic and go from there. Well, since I had the teenager, I had to put the kid on there too. So, that's him on the right when he was about two years old. This is the first time I haven't worked with boxes. It was very simple. I didn't put a lot of time into it (or at least as much time as I put into my boxes) but it's fine, just the same.
I'll have to start adding other family name letters to the wall to jazz it up a bit. I'm already bored with the green Rs. ha. Probably should have done mine in a different color. Oh well, live and learn.

That is so cute. I love letters but mine is so boring "J"! I like your idea of using other letters on the wall. When I saw the photo of the "R's" my first thought was the old school saying about the 3 R's...readin' writin' and arithmetic!
I like your idea of collaging on a letter and your theme is sweet. I used to sing that song to my baby boy.
Letters were really big in that era (60's and 70's) as decorative pieces. I had one on our wall..a big B. I used to watch The Mary Tyler Moore show and she had an M on the wall of her apartment. I think my B is still packed somewhere. I was a B back then. Somehow it sounds funny to say now I'm a big S. LOL
What a cool and unusual project! This is inspiring me to find myself an "E." ;)
You have a great blog!
~Erin
My mom is named Rose Anne.
Which is funny because Roseanne is my favorite show!
I was named Mary after my great aunt and Helen after my grandmother.
Speaking of Korn- my 12 year old is learning to play the guitar and is SO into rock. It is a little frightening.
He had artwork from Korn as his background on the computer recently. Now he has moved on to Metallica.
It's weird to hear my 12 year old singing songs by Jimi Hendrix when he was before my time even.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
Laundry entries always bring people out!
haha
wow, thats so cool..i can see your a crafy one huh?
I love your family tree and the cardboard "R". You are somebody with a great imagination and decorating skills!...
These are great "art" not "craft". I could see the decoupage one in a posh gallery!
Hi Rosa, thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a nice comment :D!The collaged letter looks cool!
I love the green Rs, especially the one you decoupaged! You're so creative. Is there no end to your talents?
I really like what you have done with the decoupage. My mum used to do a lot of that but she liked to cover schoolchairs. I'm not sure why but they looked nice. I think the three Rs being close in colour looks great .
I have been wanting to do some Bs,,Love your ideas with the R's. And we do need to hook up and do some art together,,I am not too far from Franklin,,I go through there to Cool Springs all the time. I take the back roads by way of Hwy 96,,coming from Hwy 100,,now that is some pretty countryside! Hope you have a delightful day Rosie,,and stay cool girlie!
Great idea Rosa, I bet we will all stealing it, I would love a D, humm my mind is starting to go into overdrive. Love xx
What a delightful idea! I never thought of decorating letters like that!! And that shop...looks to be my kind of place I love to frequent:-)
I've seen these at auction and actually won the bid on a few...but sold them right away...they are hot hot hot.
Creative juices flowin'
Well done! I really like these.
Rosa you are so much fun! Love these letters and what a great collage you finished! These letters are really blazing hot. I adore the Anthropologie catalog too...I'd go bezerk in that store!
