Crepes a la Raphi

Each time Raphael visits us from France, our highlight is his making us crepes. Wherever we have lived and he has made crepes, we always call the neighbors to come over and enjoy the fun of watching him flip them all and then the enjoyment of eating them all!

The favorite is always a simple sprinkle of sugar over them and eaten as is. No more is really needed. But being American (and Southern), I have to put out all kinds of goodies to try. Normally, I put out some hot fudge/chocolate to spread on them for the kids; but I was out last night. I always put out vanilla sugar, cinnamon sugar and try to find some type of American Spoon fruit that I usually keep an extra jar of in my pantry. Last night, I had a jar of Michigan Blueberries. Also, one of my favorites is one of my brother Jim's recipe for Bananas' Flambe (minus the flambe) aka Bananas' Foster.
Last night, we were in for a treat. Raphael made us Crepes Suzette--and they definitely were flaming! Oh, and I know now I have found my all-time favorite crepe. Raphi used orange juice and Grand Marnier for some and black rum (I had brought back from Bermuda last summer). If you like rum, it's good. I preferred the Grand Marnier, but of course! Ohhhhhh. They were soooo goooooooood!! The neighbors enjoyed them as much as we did. Poor Raphi probably made at least 30 and we ate them all in a matter of moments!

We all had the best time. I wish we were having them again tonight, but I wouldn't dare ask Raphi!

Mmmh, "crêpes" are so delicious! I love mine with lemon juice and light brown sugar or maple syrup alone!...

I love crepes too. My husband makes them once a year for some special holiday. I like them with butter and sugar, and I often add Contreau. I have bought a crepe on the streets of Paris-they fold them up into neat little packages in a triangle shape and wrap them in paper-and I stroll along eating one. As you get to the end you find that all of the butter or chocolate has migrated to the bottom and you soon find butter or chocolate running onto your hands and down your arms. A sticky mess but it never stops me. They also put ham and cheese in crepes in France but it doesn't taste good to me.
