Celebrating America

The hub took this on the Mobile Bay in Fairhope last night. I borrowed it since my pics from the deck didn't even come out in the least and are not worth sharing. Thanks hub.

We did the things you do on Independence Day, I barbecued in the morning before the sun became too hot to go out back. It actually rained a little and made the morning nice, the afternoon not so. It got so hot and humid--awww, the 4th of July.

I made potato salad,

hot dogs,

chicken skewered over hickory-smoked coals,

and of course, hamburgers. We've been having a smorgasbord for two days now. Nothing better than cooking everything at once and having it to snack on for the weekend.

I picked some hydrangea from the front yard and brought them in.

Pretty in pink,

and green.

The kids played pyros for a day blowing up various objects,

including a little people airplane, chock full of passengers.

But the pilots played right along, good sports for the holiday, I suppose.

While the kids exploded objects, I enjoyed the breeze and the smell of the blooming lavender. Mmmmm. One of my favorite smells in the world. The bees are enjoying it also.

Then I went upstairs and turned on the tube; and Bella and I watched a little of the Wimbledon match. While we were in France, we saw the French Open. I had never seen the clay court before; and I must say, I like it so much more than the grass or the concrete. You can see where the ball lands and I love to watch the guys slide around on the stuff. wink wink.

Bella, always by my side. (Except this morning when I woke up at 3 a.m.--wide awake--and looked for her to come and lay with me. No where to be found. Geesh.) And yes, I still have the screens out of the windows from the painters. Perhaps I should go and put them back while I'm thinking of it. Not that I'll be opening them any time soon. Geesh, it got hot! Oooooof!

The cousin (my niece Jacq) comes on Tuesday! Yay! A tad delayed, but we'll take her anyway. We are so excited to have her with us again. She won't be staying the month with us like last year, so we're a little sad about that. But again, we'll take what we can get of her. (Look at how little the kid, the cuz and Bella were last year!! Each one has grown so. Oh my!)

Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday! Nice long weekend, joy!
