SOS 2 SOL

Sending out an SOS to Save Our Lottie. Here are Beth and her mom Lottie when we got together last month for lunch and a little shopping at Michael's. Now they need our support.

Lottie had her back surgery on Monday but it has been a very tough two days. Poor Lottie is in so much pain that she is on a lot of medication and they can't get her up to walk. Yet they want her to go home tomorrow. Before the operation, they said Lottie would be going into a rehab center for at least a week, if not two, to enable her to receive the physical therapy needed after such an operation. Now they are saying that her insurance is not going to cover it, so they just want to send her home. Don't even get me started again on our healthcare system. Here is a senior citizen who lives with her elderly husband. The insurance company is willing to just throw her out of the hospital and send her home where she will have no one to help her with her physical therapy other than her 70+ year old husband? Beth can't be with her 24/7. To make matters worse, she is so highly medicated because of her pain, how do they expect her to be able to walk, even if she hadn't just had surgery?

Beth told me tonight that the doctor's assistant is doing everything in her power to get Lottie admitted to the rehab center by her house; but she is having to jump through hoops to get her in. Again, the insurance is requesting more paperwork even after working with them all day on the matter.

I feel so badly for Beth because she is so worried about her mom. Not only does she have to watch her suffer through her pain, but now she has the worry of her mom being released from the hospital and going home without any support other than herself.

Maybe if we all say our prayers and keep them in our thoughts, everything will work out tomorrow and Lottie will be admitted into a rehab center where she unquestionably belongs.

Bless you, my dearest friend! I so appreciate this post!!! I LOVE that picture too! I woke up 3:00 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep as I am so worried. And now Ice is creeping our way, worrying even more about how I am going to get to town to even bring her home or to (with fingers crossed) the rehab. Saying lots of prayers here.
I Love You,,thanks for being here for us!

We are so lucky here in Britain that we have a wonderful National Health Service. I can't imagine the worry they must be going through. Love Julia x

I'm so sorry to hear this. What a worry. Both are in my prayers. Such nice folk. You're a wonderful friend.

I just left Beth's blog. She is so worried. I just don't understand why we continue to let "officials" make medical decisions about people's lives! This is absolutely nuts!!

I'm keeping all of you in my thoughts and hoping that the insurance company wakes up and finds their heart....and their brain!!

I will keep my fingers crossed for Beth and Lottie that they both get the support they need. I saw Michael Moore's film Sicko recently, but I guess it didn't quite shame your insurance companies into treating people like human beings yet. Not that our hospitals in Britain always treat us like human beings either, but at least we have media & other pressures we can usually bring to bear on the worst healthcare denials, until thankfully they are sometimes reversed.
But of course it's hard to campaign when you're not feeling well!

I will be sending my prayers to her...

I think all medical insurances worldwide are stealers (a mafia)! Here, we are forced to have one and it costs a lot. When you are not wealthy, you have to take the lowest (which already represents a few hundreds of francs a month), but it covers nearly nothing...

Cheers,

Rosa

I meant "Health services" not "Medical Insurances" ;-P...

I won't start on health care and insurance, but I will say that Beth and Lottie have all my thoughts, prayers and good thoughts to get them through this challenging time.

This is a sore subject for me, too. I am hoping that Tennessee has a plan in place for just such emergencies. California does but you can't own anything at all to qualify. I will keep my fingers crossed that something materializes.

Bless their hearts! What ever happened to pre-certification...I just don't understand the health care system!!!!

As I told Beth on her post my prayers are with them.

Hope you all stay warm and safe down yonder...we are in for it up here and I'm sooooo tired of winter....

I've been thinking of both Beth and Lottie and sending good thoughts their way. I'll continue to do so. In the meantime, there are workers at the hospital who can facilitate getting her the care that she needs. I'd ask the head nurse on her floor for help in getting in touch with those people. Often hospitals have a worker from the Dept. of Social and Health Services, that can help out with that too. It's important to let everyone know, that you won't back down from such things. Sometimes, they just choose to do what's easier for them, rather than put out the effort required. If they aren't being helpful, there are also papers that the hospital has available to fill out,and file a complaint. Things are only going to change when people speak up. It's hard, when you're tired and worried, but it pays off. I know, I've been there with a few folks. You have to advocate for your loved ones some times. My sister's father in law was denied a heart transplant, originally, but he got one, and it was paid for by the insurance that he qualified for all along. Oh the stories I could tell you!

Lots of love to Lottie and to Beth, and to you too. xoxo
