A Happy Valentine's Night to Ya!

It seems that Valentine's has almost come and gone. So here I am again, a little behind the clock. I hope you all had a wonderful day and all your loved ones treated you with all kinds of goodies.

My valentine was out of town but got home just a short while ago, roses in tow. I added them to my flowers of the month; and I have to admit, they look extremely lovely indeed. For real, tomorrow I am making my lasagna! Post Valentine's dinner, promise.

Mrs. Baking Challenged hit the kitchen today and made cupcakes.

I concentrated and worked really hard to make sure I did everything correctly. Again, I used that stupid big oven which I can't seem to regulate accurately. It throws me fits. After cooking them for 20 minutes, turning them at 10, they were still soupy on the inside; and so I cranked the convection oven on.

And no, they still didn't turn out quite as I had hoped. As usual, they came out looking "wonky," as Queen Vallen would say. But no fear, just cover them with lots of icing.

Even that came out looking rather silly. I tried my hand at piping the icing over the cupcakes in a swirl. They look a little primitive if you ask me. hehe.

But, you know how the story ends with poor old Mrs. Baking Challenged. Her family loves her anyway in spite of her less-than-perfect baking skills. And, in the end, they taste soooooo good, or so I am told.

Wonky, I'm starting to realize, has become quite chic. Wonk on with your bad baking self. Someday I'll tell you about the blue carrot cake or the lemon meringue soup my sister and I made, the height of wonkiness.

Love the valentine card image. Very quaint.

Your cupcakes look good too. Sadly I've gone from eating things I like to eating things for the vitamin content these days, so it would have to be no less an occasion than Valentine's Day to make me partake!

shoot i had an entire paragraph written and the dang thing just up and disappeared. let's see.... i said "will you look at that! little miss queen chef is at work!" or some such thing. the main point was to say i like how you carry us all along on the self deprecating banter about your culinary skills. you will be a guest host over at tweets treats any day now!!
XOX
p.s. thanks for the thoughtful comments on my blog the last couple of days. it hurts my hart to miss her but i feel better when someone understands.

I love those old valentines. There are several in that style. My friend Jan has collected some of them over the years, and I've enjoyed seeing how many different ones there are.

I think your cupcakes look delicious, and they're charming decorated like that!
