When I Grow Old . . .

I want to grow a garden.

I came to this realization after visiting Anne Hathaway's childhood home in Stratford-upon-Avon.  Nooooo, not the American actress, Anne Hathaway, silly.

I'm speaking of the 16th century Anne Hathaway.  Uh huh, Shakespeare's Anne Hathaway.  That one.

I was fully expecting to fall in love with her house, of course.  I'm that first-magazine-subscription-to-Architectural Digest-in-junior-high-school gal. And, of course yes, I did fall in love with the house.

It had me at thatched roof.

I was even able to sneak a shot in of the inside.  Photogs.  Pffft.

But it was the gardens that grabbed me by my heart this time.

The colors grabbed me.  The delicacy of each bloom grabbed me.

Of course, now I have to plan a move to cooler climate.

2012.

If we all don't die.  (What's up with that?  I musta missed something.)

*Hub home from Sweden tonight.  Buffalo burgers need to get grillin'.

I thought that was the Stratford-Upon-Avon region.... When I grow old I want to grow a garden and live in such a lovely cottage.

Cheers,

Rosa

So lovely today. I tried to imagine what it might have looked like in Anne's time period. Life was no doubt much harder than and everything took longer. I hope she had time to nurture a garden such as this.

What an amazing post. My husband lived in England for several years and he lived in a house with a thatched roof for a short period of time and I was so jealous when he told me stories of that and the rose gardens. I'm looking forward to when we can go and he can show me everything.

When are you moving in there??? ;-)

Yes, Dawhlink Friend,,,a cooler climate is much more gardener friendly. Take it from someone who knows. Weeding a garden when it's in the upper 90s and 100% humidity,,it no fun at all!
XOXOXO

I have had dreams of this house and garden more than once, and I've never been there. Isn't that odd? I think I must have seen it in a movie once upon a time. It sure is pretty there. I live in a climate very similar to England's. Gardening is big here, and to the north of us in Victoria, B.C. too. I know Portland has pretty rose gardens. Maybe someday!

With a warm home like that, surrounded with a heavenly garden, getting old is really going to be on the bright side! We could just imagine ourselves just taking good care of the flowers and plants, and just breathing in the fresh air. Shakespeare's Anne must have had a really memorable childhood. She could have stayed here when she got old.
