Lunch in DC

Another one of my brother's lunch haunts is Jaleo. If you remember, the last time I was here closing up my mom's house, he took me there. I was in food heaven. This time was no different.

After taking the photo of the menu cover, I noticed they had opened another in Crystal City, right down the street from the house I grew up in is, and right in Arlington, close to the hospital! In hindsight, I'm glad we made the trip downtown. It was a well needed get away from the hospital.

The chef, Jose Andres, has since opened several other latino fare restaurants in the area of 8th Street. Next time perhaps we'll give Cafe Atlantico and Oyamel a try. Put it on the list Jim! Jim tells me that Jose will soon be staring in his own foody tv program. How fun is that? I'm all for learning how to make tapas! Gonna have to keep and eye/ear out for that.

Since Jim always knows what to get, I let him order. Again, we ordered too much and when we thought we were finished, out came two more tapas plates! Oy! I tell you, I had to take a Zantac that day! It was worth it though. Sorry some of the pics have half-eaten plates. Sometimes I get so excited, I forget to take the picture before digging in!

Of course, we had to have the Serrano ham.

Pork Belly and
Costillas de buey guisadas envino tinto
Braised beef short ribs with potato purée (in the background)

Trigueros con salsa de romesco
Grilled asparagus with romesco sauce

Espinacas a la Catalana
Sauteed spinach, pine nuts, raisins, and apples

Chorizo casero tradicional

Traditional homemade chorizo on garlic mashed potatoes

Butifarra con ‘mongetes’ y setas silvestres

Traditional pork sausage with white beans and mushrooms

Pato con clementinas

Confit of duck with clementines

Ooooooof! I think I'm going to be sick. I'm stuffed just reliving it!

Ha! It started out looking so light and the further down I got in the pictures the more "full" I became! Sounds fabulous!
