Shyness

"Thoughts" by Dome 'nech

I was amazed by the responses I received in regard to my shyness. So many of us here in blogland are extremely shy in person yet who would ever know this by the way we write? Fascinating.

I remember once, when I was in my early 20s, a friend of my brother's (who was a pompous ass, pardon me) told him how stuck up I was. Ha! Me, conceded? I think not. I hope my brother set him straight in telling him I was just shy (I despised the guy after that). I wondered how many other people mistook my shyness as being something other than just that. A lot of people cannot believe I suffer from shyness, even today. Well, yes, I work very hard to overcome it; but unfortunately it is still there. I think, in a way though, it humbles me. I'm glad I'm not a loud mouth that says everything that comes to mind. Some things should be kept to yourself--shy or not. In that sense, I suppose I'm glad I'm a shy person.

so many do say they are shy but I think I'm an extrovert...except when people start making fun of my accent...that in a way has made me shy and avoid saying anything aloud....
I like blogging cause I can say it and noone thinks I'm from Po-Dunk Ky...
well...maybe they do, but the blogging community is nice...thank goodness!!

I was what one would call "pathetically shy" while growing up and now I'm just "shy"! lol As you said, so many things I say on my blog I would never have the nerve to say in person! Quite a few people thought I was a snob when it was only my shyness making me ignore them, etc. Anyway, I'm glad I'm a shy person too:-)

Well there's definitely something to be said for shyness. And it's true sometimes people mistake it for being aloof. I try to overcome mine and people who meet me can't imagine that I'm basically shy. But I am! (See, we really are sisters). xo

You're right I wouldn't have suspected you were a shy person by how you write and the way you travel. No one would believe me but I always feel shy when meeting new people, I try to overcome it and with the nervousness of that end up overcompensating and maybe act a wee bit too energetic. (just ask Annie) It's a double edged sword.
XOXO

I had the same thing, when a teenager. Being thought stuck up because I was shy. I`m still fairly shy, although not as bad. Always wanted to be one of those outgoing ones!

I have always been shy, although I'm easy going with people! Maybe it comes from my lack of confidence...

I guess that for some idiots shyness makes us look stuck up or snotty. I just hate those who make fun out of that...

Hi Rosa!
I tried to leave a comment yssterday but Blogger decided to have an error just then!
I have been a shy person too. My childhood (first 5 years ) was isolated, and so while my social developement was slower, My imagination and creativity benefited.
I realize that while I enjoy a balance of being around people and having alone time, I NEVER want the spotlight! I have learned to show the world who I am through my art....paintings, quilts, etc.
