Cosmo's Moon

One of my all-time favorite movies is Moonstruck. I can just so relate to the whole big Italian (and Ukrainian) NY family overtalking one another at a table setting. I'm talking about the hub's family, of course. Mine is one of Southern muttness which have lost all the wonderful old "motherland" traditions many generations ago, unfortunately.

A favorite line in the movie (there are so many) is when the brother-in-law is awoken (in his older age) by the brightness of the moon shining through his window. He then proceeds to tell "us" about the enormous and magical moon that appeared one night during his sister'’s courtship with Cosmo. Drawn to the window, he found Cosmo in the yard gazing up at her window, and for years he believed that Cosmo'’s great love called up that amazing moon that woke him from his blissful slumber so long ago. He looks out the window and tells his wife "Look, it's Cosmo's moon!"

Tonight, we have a beautiful Cosmo moon. It is absolutely gorgeous. The picture, of course, doesn't serve it justice. What is it about taking pictures of the moon? I remember many years ago when I was in photography school, I followed the moon all around Arlington, VA, in order to capture the perfect shot. Of course, once I developed the film and developed photographs, it was nothing like I had witnessed in person. Well, the same here.

If you can, run out and take a look at Cosmo's moon. Rent the movie Moonstruck if you haven't seen it already. It is a wonderful story.

PS Yes, Dianne, that is "your" house. pout.

What a beautiful scene with the moon and the Christmas lights. I love the moon and a deep dark blue sky. Guess that`s why my favorite stones are the Moonstone and Sapphire.
Such pretty decorations too. I need to get moving and get the tree up!

Beautiful!
I knew as soon as I read Cosmo's Moon that it was going to be Cosmo from Moonstruck! I love that movie and have seen it so many times, yet never tire of it.

I have watched that movie a zillion times and never get tired of it. A la familia!!! I always cry at the end.

BTW, my family on my mother's side was from Kremenchug in the Ukraine. It is located on the Dneiper River. My grandparents emigrated to the USA in 1904 and 1905. So, I can also relate to the wonderful old "motherland" traditions that I still maintain.

I, too love "Moonstruck." Such a romantic movie. And who couldn't love Nicholas Cage??? One of my favorite movies is "The Family Man", which he stared in with Tea Leoni. Ah, yes, Cosmos' moon.

Moonstruck is indeed a wonderful movie, I've seen it quite a few times myself:-) It's funny you should post a picture of the moon because I also posted one this morning...I took it yesterday morning just before sunrise. It really caught my eye because it was so round and bright. I zoomed in on it and the picture didn't turn out too badly but as you say, it's hard to get that perfect picture of the moon!! xox

I love that movie too - so much so that when I saw it recently on French television, I ordered the DVD. It reminds me of my NYC days and Lincoln Center and the fun and glamour of getting all dressed up.
