And you thought Macy's was only good for their Thanksgiving parade! Their windows are fabulous too! (Sorry, the sun was out and the windows were a little glared!)
The first set I came upon were very bright and whimsical. You could push a special star in the windows to make different things happen. This seemed to be a favorite for the kids. As I was standing there, a little elderly lady came up to me and asked me if I had seen Lord & Taylor's windows. "They are especially nice this year." I told her I had and that I had loved them too. It's not too often you get a local to talk to ya! She was so sweet. It really brought the spirit out in me.
The next set were winter street scenes of Macy's past and then several were depicting Miracle on 34th Street. I liked these best. They remind me of the ones in the department stores in DC when I was growing up. I'm sad so many cities no longer have the wonderful Holiday windows. So sad.
Here's a quick view of The Empire State Building. At night, it is done in red and green this time of year. (It changes for the seasons and holidays.)
After a quick run through and finding nothing, I walked through Herald Square and hit a couple of shops there. Let me tell you, after walking from Central Park and 5th Avenue to Herald Square, I was bushed. I taxied back to the hotel to rest my little piggies and pack up to come home.
The hub and I had a wonderful dinner at Bobby Van's and then checked out of the hotel and took a taxi to JFK. We made it through Brooklyn and Queens in record time. I am always amazed at how these taxis keep from killing everyone in their way! After checking our bags, I asked if our flight was on time. Nope. It had been scheduled to leave at 9:30--now delayed to 1 a.m.! It was foggy and you know my momma didn't raise no fool. I wasn't going to sit at JFK for another 6 hours only to hear our flight was cancelled at about 1:30 in the morning. New York is notorious for that domino effect, and after being stuck there one too many times, we weren't about to do that again. We took our bags back, rescheduled for the first flight out in the morning and found the closest hotel (of horrors) to sleep at for the night. We were fortunate to get a room. After we had a couple of cocktails and were going back to our room, the line was out the door of people checking in. It was after 11 p.m.!! Oh, the humanity! I felt for those people. I know how tired they must have been.
One last post of Radio City Music Hall. You can barely see the nutcrackers. But the cannon blows a puff of smoke and all the nutcrackers fall like dominoes. It's a lot of fun to watch. Looks like they are either on their way down or back up! Hope you enjoyed your visit to NYC!

I've loved all of these NYC posts so much Rosa! Thank you for taking the time to share your marvelous trip with all of us.
NYC is one of my favorite places to visit and Christmas time is especially magical there.
We just finished watching a holiday special on dept store windows that were decorated for the holidays. They all said Macy's was the BEST! It looked like the one you have pictured that is interactive. They also showed Bloomingdales, Barneys and Neiman Marcus in Dallas. No expense is spared...
:)
I have never been to New York...Christmas time seems like the very best time to go. Thanks for sharing you pictures with us.
Sending you hugs,
Connie
Let's see if I can leave a comment - blogger usually boots me off of your blog for some reason.
LOVE the Christmas window displays! They are always magical. That is one thing that I miss from living nearer to big cities with large dept. store windows... It's been a long time since I was in NYC - thanks for the virtual visit!
Rosa.
Smart move on the reschedule, no fool indeed :-) I would love to visit NYC again. I have enough Virgin Atlantic miles for one economy round trip, so maybe sometime when Mary is in Scotland.

I love NYC - wait til you see my post for Daisy Lupin christmas circle, it is about my trip to NYC !!
love ya Rosa xo
Thank you so much for this wonderful trip....it really brought back more and more memories of my time there both at Christmas time and in the Fall. You've captured so much....I agree about there not being these types of window displays anymore. I think it would be such a wonderful job to think of all the creative ways to dress them.
BIG HUGS!
XOXO
Lisa
oh, and how wise you were about getting a room for the night rather than waiting for HOURS in JFK.
What a magical place to be during the Christmas season!!
You know I'm thinking I would rather do a tour through a town with the window's decorated as to watch a Christmas parade...
:-D
What a wonderful trip you've had. Our local florist decorates his windows wonderfully. Always different each year, it must cost him a fortune, but you can tell he just loves to do it.
Talking about taxis, I have been run over by one !!! and it hurt.... a lot. Plenty of broken bones !!!
Have a wonderful christmas, I've wiped the dust off the computer and opened the blog back up. Love Julia x
Wow you do get around girl.
The Macy windows in Chicago are Mary Poppins....just not quite the same charm as Marshall Fields
whimsical...so different from my christmas...beautiful..
don't you just love New York? *sigh* how I wish I were there right now.
I have just spent 10 mins reading your NY posts again!
and - I did not get booted off!!
I really needed this today, thank you so much! I lived for a time in New York when I was younger, and this time of year I really miss it : )
Blessed Advent, Soon to Be Christmas : ) Wendy
I usually go to New York City this time of year but I may not now. Thanks for the pics of what I would be missing.
Thanks for sharing your trip. I am envious! Glad you got home okay..I hate delays..but I do like em if they offer vouchers!
Merry Christmas.
Lovely jubbly, as the Brits say. Thanks for the virtual visit!
Don't you just adore NYC at Christmas? We were there in 2004 and were walking around with friends very, very late one night in late November. That was the night they were "testing" the giant tree at Rockerfeller Plaza for its lighting ceremony that was to be on the weekend. There were hardly any people out on that warm night and we stood there while the tree was turned on and off several times and the snowflakes on Saks Fifth Avenue were turned on for the first time that year. It was magic, like a light show just for us! I loved your photos!
