I decided to cut back my lavender today. For the very first time. Like EVER! This basket full is only a few of the plants. I couldn't get to them all today.
I admit to being a poor gardener. I brought these French lavenders back from Virginia and planted them way back in say 2004. They have done quite well as you can see (July 4th photo). But they have been neglected and are now splitting because they are so top heavy. Bad me. The "wood" is quite tall and you're not supposed to cut down to it. So I was only able to cute about 12 inches off this year. Oy.
I wish we had scratch-n-sniff computer screens. It is amazing, the smell. My allergies will probably be giving me fits tonight, but it was well worth it. I put the abundance of lavender in my Aunt Ollie's old clothes' basket that we have had in the family for many years. I remember it in out hall closet, for dirty clothes, growing up. I put the basket at the bottom of the garage stairs. As soon as you open the door, the smell is just heavenly. I believe lavender to be my all-time favorite smell in all the world. So fresh and clean.
Tomorrow, I'll go back out and finish up the rest of the plants. Then it's time to cut my rosemary back also. That aroma comes in a close second.

lavender is my all time favorite to use in soaps. I have some planted but it looks nothing like yours!
Great! Now your clothes are going to smell like heaven...
Cheers,
Rosa
Totally gorgeous. I have lavender, too -- though not like that. But oh, the fragrance! Your big basket reminds me of something one would see from a person in France! Provence, probably! With baskets of lovely lavender!
Love Lavender and you sure have a slew of it. I have a little pot of it but plan to have a big row of it next year. And I have a bigger size rosemary plant. Going to cover it good so it wil make it throught the winter. Sure hope to see you next week.!!!
Oh,,and you will get a Birthday prez then too!!! I haven't forgot its the 13th,,,right?

Dear rosa, here i am! yeah!! i decided to join rachel at work today for her 8 hour shift so i could have a little on-line time to visit everyone without the pressure of connection issues.
i agree...we could probably make about million dollars each if we could design that scratch and sniff screen..especially for blogger and their visitors. i have laid awake many a night trying to figure out the engineering of that but alas it still seems to be an illusive dream idea.
and you have a birthday in 2 days? happy birthday rosa :) you are about 27 is that right?
i'm glad you are finding your way out of your funk. XO
i had to laugh at the post below because here i was seriously considering your design options and by the time i got to the bottom of the post i had decided which rug i wanted you to have and lo and behold you had already ordered one without my opinion!!
Lavender is something I've never tried to grow, not sure if it would do well here. I can well imagine how fabulous the smell is. What will you be doing with all that lavender? Do you dry it and make sachets?? xoxo
Lavender is my love to help me with my migraines. Would love to be a little bird nesting in your yard. I would be feeling wonderful.
Take good care of yourself.
Hugs
I've never tried to grow it...but I want to! I LOVE the smell! Can you dry this and put it in sachets?
Happy Birthday dear friend!!
I wonder if the people who bought our house kept my lavender plants? I remember the wonderful smell when I cut them and miss it. Not sure they would grow in Phoenix. Maybe too hot with no real winter. I'll live through you...
