The Gulf of Mexico as we see it today. Bright white sands, blue and green water. Tomorrow? Who knows when the oil is going to hit here.
For now anyway, the disaster has not hit the Mississippi, Alabama or Florida shores. We're thankful.
I drove over to Bon Secour on Thursday and bought some fresh brown shrimp for dinner.
So peaceful and simple here. The thought of our waters being poisoned by who-knows-what kills me.
Earlier in the week, the kid and I went over to Darlene's for art class. She's the best art teacher ever. She teaches a student on Tuesdays and she always invites us over when we're in town.
We had showers off and on today with thunderstorms mixed in. I found it to be absolutely perfect as it kept the neighbors' noise down a few decibels. ha. We have a big group renting the next-door house. Joy. They're nice, just loud.
Heading home tomorrow. Then we're off to Dublin on Saturday!

Looks like a wonderful time. We are keeping our fingers crossed that there are no Gulf Hurricanes this year ... all that oil .. OMG. Have a wonderful trip. Take lots of photos ... I want to see it all! :D :D :D
Boy, Rosa, talk about mixed feelings. Even as far away as California, we feel the anxiety of what might happen. To see these pictures and imagine the possibility of this being destroyed is just unbearable. I've been reflecting on Exxon in Valdez, AK 25 years ago and then kitty corner in our country now we find the same threat.
Then you share the sunny art of your friend and the beautiful day with your son. The two kinds of beauty in opposition to each other with the same cloud hanging over each . . . I just shake my head. It is unthinkable that greed, sloppy security measures, and shoddy government follow-up (did they learn nothing from Katrina?) will end up destroying a way of life.
It seems that you are having a great time there. Lovely sea shots, yummy shrimps and cute art!
Cheers,
Rosa
What a BEAUTIFUL blue sky!
Glad it's going well and nothing nasty has shown up yet. The shrimp boil looks to die for! So do those fabulous suns! I like Darlene. I don't even know her and I like her!
I love the "Suns". Bright, cheery and whimsical.
Thanks for sharing your photos.
Hope you are doing well.
Hugs,
Look's like you had a great time! I sure hope the oil doesn't make it to Riverside and the rest of the Gulf but sure looks bad.
Hope to talk to you soon. Call me when you get back from Dublin,,
Ms. World Traveler! Have fun!
xoxoxoxo
I always love seeing your pictures of Riverside, it's so peaceful and gorgeous!! It is a shame about the oil spill being on its way to those shores:-( I cooked shrimps in garlic butter on the bbq the other day...of course can't get fresh shrimp here, just frozen ones! lol I have no doubt it tastes so much better when fresh.
Your friend Darlene does beautiful work, no wonder you love going to see her art.
Ooooh you're heading for Dublin tomorrow...have a FANTASTIC trip and take tons of pics:-) xoxo
I am heartsick over this oil spill. The only good I can think of, is that maybe it will be a wake-up call to everyone on the importance of conservation, and the need to put more resources towards clean energy alternatives.
I wish you all a safe journey Rosemary. Take care.
xo
