Welcome Home

The hub is freshly home from Asia, so I thought I'd treat everyone to a good, hearty breakfast. I went to the farmers' market and found some fresh bread. I had never heard of "Salt-Rising" bread, you? They said this was the bread to get for French toast. Hmmm.

Well, the boys liked it; but I think it was a tad savory and dense for French toast. I think it would be much better for sandwiches or say croutons. Live and learn.

Welcome home, hub!

I Got the Baby!

This is the first King Cake I've ordered for us in several years. And I am so glad I did. I ordered from Sucre this year. My first time. I heard about them through Garden & Gun and in The Washington Post.  Both put Sucre at the top of the taste test. And now, I do too.

My-oh-my. This is the freshest King Cake I have ever received by mail order. YUM. And pretty too. Look at all the sparkles! Who doesn't love sparkles!

Sucre's King Cake comes with the baby on top. Therefore, I stuck it in the bottom of the cake, blind folded. Then the kid took the cake and turned it round and around.

He then took the first slice. No baby. I was going to find another spot to slice and then decided to keep it neat. So, I cut a slice right next to his. And, guess what!

I got the baby!

Mmmmmmmm. I sure know where I'm ordering from next year! Aiiiyeeee!

Snack time.

Sabotage!

I heard the Beastie Boys' Sabotage today and can't help but think, "Yup, gotta be." K, get this y'all (in my best Brittney voice), know that ice maker that leaked and just 'bout "rurnt" my kitchen floors?

Yup, these'ns.
Oh, and PS, the entire back side of the house has to be re-sanded, stained and polyurethaned. AGAIN. Because of these'ns.

Remember having to do just that only a couple of years' back? And how long it took to get the fricken' job done? I certainly do, toots. My saving grace  was/is having "my" floor guy--the same one who has done all of our floors since we moved here. Thank you big guy in the sky for at least giving me enough sense to insist on using my guy when the kitchen was being remodeled. Pheeewwwww! Ha, remember this rant? Ooof, who could forget? Hisssss.

Alrighty then, let's just move along, shall we?
Well, shaaaaaa. Looky at what I found last night after our instant hot-water dispenser began spitting at me. (And by the way, ouchy.) Yuuuuupp, I found another leak. Another LEAK!

Are you freakin' kidding me? This is the THIRD leak in two years from this "new" plumbing.

Is it just coincidence, or are you thinking what I'm thinking? I'm thinking it's the wonderful plumbing work the KITCHEN IDIOTS did for us. Hmmmm. Ya think?

Sabotage? Although I wouldn't put anything past themat this point, pro'lly not. I think it to be more of the same shoddy workmanship we received throughout the entire hellish project. Yup. That's what I think!

Sigh. I keep looking downstairs in mom's kitchen to make sure this isn't going to happen again. This was the first leak caused by the water filter. Wha??? Oh, and we caught that one pretty early also. Ugh.

-SMILE- We did, however, wake up to a beautiful, snowy morn here in Middle Tennessee. -SMILE-

Birthdays Missed

Mom would have been 88 today. Still missing her so; but I'm beginning to remember only the good old days.

I miss that big, beautiful smile the most. She never lost it.

Happy Birthday, Mom.

Catch Up

Seems I've taken a few years off and now I'm trying to catch up. I had left behind so many little projects scattered about the place. Finally I'm getting back to my niece's scrapbook. Oy. Two summers behind!

Just now finishing up pages for the UK trip back in the summer of 2010. Yup, way back then. Where in the world does the time go? I can hardly remember Jacq's visit this past summer. Best get my thinking cap on because those pages come next!

Ooofy.

Key West

Standing on the edge.  The Southernmost spot in the United States.

I love places that make you stop and think.
I thought of visiting Cuba and then I waved to Havana.

Mr. David Allan Coe

I bought tickets to see David Allan Coe back in early December when they first went on sale. I was still on my outlaw-country high from my brother Jim's visit here at Thanksgiving. I had been to Marathon Music Works to see Wanda Jackson on their opening night a couple of months back; and it's a fun, new venue. I really didn't know what to expect from Mr. Coe.

The hub was my escort for the evening. We took our time at dinner and missed the first act for the night, Denney and the Jets. Now, y'all know the hub is not a big country music fan; but he didn't seem to mind the folksy Americana played by Johnny Corndawg. I don't know who the fella is in the plaid shirt. Sorry. Johnny called him up on stage to do a song or two. They were all great.

Everyone was beginning to chant "D-A-C, D-A-C" when the man took the stage. Honestly, I didn't know what he would look like. I was not, however, expecting a three-foot blond, dreadlock wig. Humm. The grey, bead-braided beard? I kinda get that. But the wig? Not so much.
Of course, the man has passed his prime, seen his glory days and is probably a mere shell of what he was. Aren't we all? But just going to see him and hear him sing was a priceless moment. And hey, who is to say what kinda wig I'll be wearing when I'm 73? Just sayin'.

This picture kind of catured the essence of the man that was. A big ol' tour bus on a dark road parked behind a whole lotta hog.

Gotta love it.
